“Malaysian police have arrested nine Christians accused of trying to convert Muslim university students - a serious crime punishable by prison in this Muslim-majority country, a lawyer said on Wednesday.

The suspects have denied the allegation, which could aggravate complaints by religious minorities that authorities are increasingly ignoring their rights in favour of Islam.

Proselytising of Muslims by members of other religions is forbidden in Malaysia, though the reverse is allowed. Muslims, who comprise nearly two-thirds of Malaysia's 28 million people, are also not legally permitted to change religion.

Police detained the nine in a hostel room at the Universiti Putra Malaysia near Kuala Lumpur late on Tuesday, said Annou Xavier, a lawyer who handles cases involving religion.”

A woman who was found dead and decomposing together with her new born baby boy with his umbilical card still intact in a room of a University Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM) Skudai, Johor Bahru, hostel was, according to UTM's corporate affairs department assistant registrar (media and external relations) Sabri Ahmad, a university drop out, Sabri reportedly stated that the 26-year old woman had failed her first semester examination in her fourth year in November 2008.

Oh, so all is well then, UTM washes hands and evades any responsibility!

"She had been renting a room at the dormitory since 11 May 2009, and was from the Science faculty," he said.

Evidently outsiders were allowed to rent rooms at the university on a case-by-case basis.

This is a very peculiar situation, is this really true? New students are even currently unable to get proper on-campus accommodation.

Meanwhile, the head of Johor Baru (North) police A C Ruslan Hassan was reported as saying that the police had taken the baby's DNA samples to locate the father and stated that the unmarried? woman, who was from Kelantan was believed to have died from excessive blood loss whilst in labour and giving birth.

Devil Than Shwe

The Devils of Burma are led by Than Shwe, military dictator and head of the ruling junta in Burma (Myanmar), he is a secretive vindictive monster.

He shows no qualms about having dissidents, journalists, and even Buddhist monks were beaten, jailed, tortured, or executed.

He is very superstitious, in 2005 he moved the national capital essentially overnight, on the advice of an astrologer.

The multi-medalled-megalomaniac Than Shwe, where did he get all those medals?
He has never fought in any war!

He has absolute power, but Than Shwe is so reclusive that most of the Burmese people have never even heard his voice.

Smuggled video footage (see below) of the sumptuously vulgar wedding thrown for his daughter sparked outrage across the country, as it provided a glimpse of the lifestyle of the very rich at the expense of the majority in Burma who are totally oppressed and remain very poor.

There were no protests in Malaysia, as groups of more than four (4) people are prohibited from gathering together without a permit from the police!

Article 10 of Malaysia's constitution guarantees freedom of assembly, however the Police Act of 1967 severely restricts its exercise in practice.

No more than four persons may assemble in public without a police license.

Police are empowered to break up unlicensed demonstrations, arrest participants, and use force if orders to disperse are ignored.

So folks, in Malaysia there is less freedom and less respect for human rights than in many other countries and territories including Hong Kong, China.

THE PERAK STATE GOVERNMENT SHOWDOWN

Ipoh, Perak. Thurday, 7^th May 2009

In reverse order, latest events first.

Events Proceeding the Sitting of the Perak State Assembly.

The action has now moved inside the state assembly.

The Speaker V Sivakumar, immediately, after taking his seat, asked the seven suspended BN state reps including BN appointed MB Zambry to leave the hall.

He says he won’t begin the assembly sitting until they are all out of the hall. According to Sivakumar, he has the power to do so. Pakatan state reps thump their table in support.

The speaker said the suspension of Zambry and his six exco members was made by him in his capacity as the chairperson of the privileges and the special rights committee and not as the speaker.

He said the Federal Court decision was based on his standing as a speaker and as such the matter was inapplicable.

He also asked the three BN-friendly independents to leave the assembly as his legal suit against the three was still pending in court.

His order for the ten to leave the State Assembly Hall was greeted by cheers and table-clapping by the Pakatan Rakyat (PKR) representatives.

They shouted ‘keluar' (out) repeatedly.

However the ten representatives still remain in the hall. A shouting match between the two sides is currently under way.

All Perak State Assemblymen, special guests with invitations and accredited media were allowed into the Dewan.

Pakatan Rakyat (PKR) reps sat on the right side of the Speaker (the so called “government side”).

The police conducted strict checks of all ID passes. Everyone was scanned by means of metal detectors.

Men without songkok (Malay headgear) and a female reporter in traditional Punjabi outfit were denied entry.

One can but wonder what this sartorial matter has this got to do with the police?

Shouting was heard from within the State Assembly Hall.

Scores of people have already been arrested in Ipoh.

Shortly after that yet more arrests outside the state secretariat, this time it was the turn of Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Yusof Rawa of PAS and Malaysiakini columnist and activist Helen Ang.

PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub was detained for 'illegal assembly' about 20 metres from the tree dubbed the “Democracy Tree” where the historic “under the tree” State Assembly was held on 3^rd March 2009.

Shortly after Salahuddin was detained, yet another arrest, this time of Sungai Siput MP Jeyakumar, who was detained about 10 metres away from the same tree.

Up to about 09:45, according to Lim Kit Siang, those arrested so far include:-

1. Lau Bak Kee, DAP veteran chairman,

2. former rep R.K. Muthu,

3. blogger Zorro (Bernard Khoo),

4. Lee Kong Hing, previous Negeri Sembilan state organising secretary,

5. Sg Pinang rep Koid Teng Guan,

6. Bahau rep Tey Kok Seong,

7. Temiang rep Ng Chin Tsai,

8. Teratai rep Jenice Lee,

9. Melaka rep Khoo Poay Tiong,

10. Taiping DAP Youth chief Tey Kok Lim.

An Anti-Black T-shirt Day in Ipoh.

Police reportedly confiscated two boxes (about 200 units) of black coloured "One Black Malaysia" printed t-shirt from the Pakatan Rakyat supporters stall next to the Kampung Manjoi Baru surau, earlier in the morning. Are these t-shirts unlawful, are they prohibited items, are they banned??

Police also earlier arrested three men wearing black t-shirts with the slogan “Kembalikan hak rakyat” (Give the people back their rights) after a scuffle outside the state secretariat building.

The Pope condemned on condoms

In the Lancet - The Pope versus the Condom

One of the most prestigious medical journals in the world, the Lancet, has accused Pope Benedict XVI of distorting science in remarks he made during a recent visit to Africa regarding the use of condoms to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS.

It appears that the Pope has lost touch with the reality of the situation, his remarks that the "cruel epidemic" should be tackled through abstinence and fidelity rather than condom use, will have the effect of a cruel long and painful lead up to inevitable death.

The Pope has in effect served a death sentence on many Roman Catholic believers worldwide.

The Pope reportedly said:-

"the traditional teaching of the Church has proven to be the only fail safe way to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids."

One can understand the Pope's sentiments, but he needs to be realistic.

This utter idealistic rubbish is the opinion of someone, who is obviously out of touch and looking through rose-coloured glasses from a high vantage point in Cloud Cuckoo-land.
