People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
According to reports in the Malaysian, government owned Main Stream Media (MSM) the police have implemented most of the 125 recommendations contained in the 2005 report by the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police.
DIGP Ismail Omar steps have been taken to forge closer ties with the public through community policing and frequent meetings with residents.
"Both the state and district police chiefs have held regular meetings with residents' associations to hear their grouses and the problems they face," he reportedly said yesterday.
"These are part of measures to rebuild the public's confidence in the police force, besides encouraging them to cooperate with us and provide vital tip-offs."
What a laugh, anyway, believe it or not, be that as it may!
The MSM didn't report this:- (update: see below)
The police last night cordoned off a opposition political party's [DAP] fund-raising dinner held for some 3,000 people in Klang and confiscated the public address system, however later they allowed the dinner to continue at 8.15pm
Police with M16s were guarding area, Lim Kit Siang likened it to a war zone
There were 900 cops wasting their time there according to the belated report in the Star, see below.
Do the police have nothing better to do? Malaysia is very far from being crime free!!
In addition yet another recent case of apparent police brutality does not seem to have been reported in the Malaysia MSM, apart from a report HERE, either.
The police in Malaysia seem to have yet again behaved like gangsters and thugs, see video below, when a 20 year old student was allegedly beaten black and blue by the cops whist handcuffed in a police station.
Little did 20-year-old college student Koh Chon Weng suspect that a night out at a club with friends would pave the way for a horrendous experience which he will never ever be able to forget.
Koh Chon Weng, still bore the scars of his ordeal when interviewed on video, he claimed that he was arrested and beaten up by policemen for no apparent reason.
"I was handcuffed, punched and kicked for several minutes. And when I spat the blood which oozed out from my mouth on the floor, I was beaten again for this," recalled the soft-spoken accounting student during a press conference at the DAP office in Petaling Jaya.

Banned T Shirts
Meanwhile, dangerous T Shirts have been confiscated by the police in Malaysia.
The Ministry of Home Affairs apparently deemed the images [see below] to be obscene, subversive and likely to glorify communism.
You judge for yourself,
I think the slogans on the T shirts are quite amusing, and generally harmless.
I see this T shirt, which is quite appropriate in this context,
is not included in the banned T shirt list.
A report in Malaysiakini HERE alerts us to the fact that Chang Jiun Haur, 23, who was brutally assaulted by Malaysian riot police at the disputed Bandar Mahkota Cheras road barricade last month, was charged on 10th June 2008, with reckless driving at the time of the incident.
He was allowed bail, and the hearing is scheduled for 7th August 2008.
UPDATED: From media reports:-
What has happened to the policemen thugs in uniform who beat him up?
Have they been, suspended from duty, investigated, charged?`
It certainly seems not to be so.
The Malaysian police are, apparently, above the law!

Police inadequacy, conspiricy?
Police Brutality?

SUHAKAM condemns the police for use of 'excessive force'
The Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) did not mince words when condemning the “excessive force” being used by the police against residents during the fracas at the Bandar Mahkota Cheras on the night of Tuesday 27th May 2008.
Police Cover up?
BMC four investigated for attempted murder
Now the four (including Chang Jiun Huar?) who were caught unawares in the Bandar Mahkota Cheras (BMC) scuffle on the night of 27 May 2008, are being investigated for attempted murder and rioting, said Kajang police chief ACP Shakaruddin Che Mood, a news report in Malaysiakini said
Federal government acting too late?
This is as is often the case, too little too late, and clearly reflects the lackadaisical BN government’s lack of honest commitment to justice and human rights.
Police Brutality was mentioned:
“There were continued reports of excessive use of force by police officers during peaceful demonstrations.
In March and May police armed with shields violently dispersed a series of peaceful protests in
Several people were reported seriously injured and dozens arrested. All were subsequently released.
There was still concern over the effectiveness of safeguards to ensure the safety and wellbeing of detainees in police custody.
At least five people, including one woman, were reported to have died in custody during the year.”
Although human rights abuses in Malaysia are perhaps not as bad as in some other countries, there is still much room for human rights and freedoms.
Thugs dressed as law enforcement officers should be weeded out, prosecuted, and if found guilty should be sacked and also punished to the full extent of the law.
Whatever the circumstances, thuggery, police brutally and the excessive use of force by any law enforcement agency must be condemned in the strongest possible way.
Cover-ups are also unacceptable.

MICHAEL JACKSON sang "They Don't Care About Us".
The lyrics and the video are below, read the lyrics and listen to the words while viewing the video.
Do you think that there is a similar situation in Malaysia?
Of course Michael Jackson was singing about the way that the African Americans, in the USA, were treated, but if you substitute instead, all those Malaysians who are outside the inner circle of BN and their crony's, then the situation in Malaysia is quite similar.
The BN government leadership, the 'UMNOputras' and their crony's are, by their actions, showing that they are only thinking about themselves.
Their arrogance, selfishness, self interest, greed, unaccountability, abuse of power, arrogance, intimidation, flamboyance and aloofness clearly show through the wafer thin veneer of pretence, lies, misinformation and political showmanship.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 (Reuters) - "Malaysian police used water cannon and tear gas on Saturday to break up an anti-government protest by ethnic Indians carrying roses to symbolise a peaceful demand for justice.
With the Malaysian government concerned about street protests in the run-up to early general elections on March 8, around 100 policemen, including riot police with helmets and shields, turned out to disperse a gathering of about 300 men, women and children.

"Latest Update of Bersih PC disrupted, Tian Chua arrested news from Malaysiakini.
Following the arrest of Tian Chua and Jalaluddin Abdul Manap yesterday, 15 February 2008 after a submission of memorandum to the King calling for a Royal Commission on electoral system reform, another political activist Ginie Lim with the People’s Justice Party was arrested last night at the Brickfields police station during her visit to Tian Chua and Jalaluddin Abdul Manap who was under detention.
In the Brickfields police station, Ginie Lim was arrested when she took picture of the investigating officer, Inspector Hidayak who ordered several police officers using force to carry away Tian Chua who resisted to be sent into police lockup at about 10.00pm. Inspector Hidayak alleged Ginie Lim of obstructing in the duty of police officers.
Tian Chua and Jalauddin Abdul Manap were sent to lock up cells in Pantai police station while Ginie Lim was sent to lock-up cell in Travers police station, Kuala Lumpur last night.
This morning, the three detainees were brought to the Magistrate’s Court by the police for a 4-day remand application. The police argued that the remand orders for Tian Chua and Jalaluddin were needed to conduct further investigation on others who were involved in the alleged illegal assembly. As for Ginie Lim, the police alleged that taking photographs in the police compound is an offence. However, counsel Gurmit Singh that represented the three detainees argued that the remand application for Tian Chua and Jalaluddin were unjustifiable as the police had completed investigation by taking statement from the two detainees. As for the case of Ginie Lim, Gurmit Singh argued if taking photograph in police station is an offence, the police should just charge Ginie Lim and release her on bail. However, it was disappointing that the Magistrate decided to grant the police a 3-day remand order on the three detainees. The detainees will be held until 18 February 2007.
On 18 February 2008, the police may apply for release the detainees or apply for further remand order and press charges against the detainees.
Clearly, this is an absolute abuse of powers by the police and deprived the detainees of precious personal liberty unnecessarily and unreasonably. "
