On Tuesday 6th May 2008, businessman Syed Akbar Ali was charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948 at a sessions court (in Kuala Lumpur?) for posting a comment on Raja Petra's site on June 5, 2007. Raja Petra’s article was entitled "Malaysia’s Organised Crime Syndicate: All Roads Lead to Putrajaya".
His comments included remarks about the Kaabah, Arabs and Malays.
Syed Akbar an ex-banker, who is 48 years of age, subsequently posted the RM3,000 bail which had been set by the court.
Hearing for the submissions as to whether, or not, the charge was groundless was set for 10th June 2008.
