A report in Malaysiakini HERE alerts us to the fact that Chang Jiun Haur, 23, who was brutally assaulted by Malaysian riot police at the disputed Bandar Mahkota Cheras road barricade last month, was charged on 10th June 2008, with reckless driving at the time of the incident.

He was allowed bail, and the hearing is scheduled for 7th August 2008.

UPDATED: From media reports:-

Chang Jiun Haur, 23, from Lukut, Negri Sembilan, was charged with committing the offences of dangerous and reckless driving, at a U-turn along Jalan Bandar Mahkota in Cheras at 11:40pm on 27th May 2008.

If convicted of the charges made under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, he is liable to five years jail and a RM20,000 fine.

The court may also suspend his driving licence for two years.

Magistrate Mazuliana Abdul Rashid set Aug 7 for trial and allowed Chang bail of RM3,000.

What has happened to the policemen thugs in uniform who beat him up?

Have they been, suspended from duty, investigated, charged?`

It certainly seems not to be so.

The Malaysian police are, apparently, above the law!
