Yet another Training Aircraft Crashes in Malaysia

The logo of the Kuala Lumpur Flying Academy (KLIFA)
can be seen on the remains of the tail fin of the crashed aircraft

KLIFA is touted as:-

It seems to have been yet another case of a crash caused engine failure.

  1. Will a thorough investigation be carried out?
  2. Will the outcome be made public?
  3. Will the investigation of all other crashes of training aircraft be made public?
Most likely the answer to the above three questions will be NO!
  1. Will the status quo remain?
  2. Will this type of tragic incident recur?
The answer to these two questions will, sadly, most likely be YES.

Accountability & transparency have, up to now, not been regarded by many as strong considerations in Malaysia.

Maintenance in Malaysia has always been very poor, to say the least!

The gist of what happened, is as follows:

The engine of a light aircraft (Liberty XL-2) had stalled in mid-air, which caused it to crashed at an oil palm estate near Kampung Sri Gunung Pulai leaving a teenage female trainee pilot dead and a flight examiner injured, according to various news reports.

Trainee pilot Dione Wong Yong Chin, 19, was killed on the spot in the crash at the Sri Pulai oil palm estate near Kulai, Johor, at about 09:20 on Tuesday 6th September 2010.
Kuala Lumpur International Flying Academy (Klifa) Sdn Bhd owns the ill-fated aircraft.

Flight examiner Captain Zaini Ramli, 38, of the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Malaysia, sustained severe injuries.

The aircraft had taken off from its 'base' at the Sultan Ismail International Airport in Senai, which lies about 5.4 nautical miles from the crash site, at about 09:00.

When contacted, Department of Civil Aviation Director General Azharuddin Abd Rahman who was contacted by the media, was reported as saying that the trainee pilot was sitting for her Private Pilot Licence (PPL) flying test and that Capt. Zaini was her flight examiner.

Sincere condolences to the family of the late Dione Wong Yong Chin, may she rest in peace.

“Is Aircraft Maintenance in Malaysia Sub-standard?”

click HERE , refers to a similar subject.

These three simple questions below need to be asked and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Malaysia needs to answer them in a transparent, professional and comprehensive manner.

Why are so many training aircraft crashing?

Is the maintenance of modern training aircraft in Malaysia sub-standard?

WHY ARE THE AIR CRASH INVESTIGATION REPORTS NOT MADE PUBLIC?

(if they are made public, I cannot locate them at the DCA website)

UMNO ACKNOWLEDGES IT IS ABOVE THE LAW

Read what UMNO legal advisor was reported as saying, click HERE

Extract:

Cases of alleged corruption by Umno members are handled internally and not by anti-graft laws, party legal adviser Datuk Hafarizam Harun said.

The party, through its own mechanisms, could address such a problem, he said.

"For reasons reflected in the party's constitution and members' code of ethics, I look at it as more of political corruption, not corruption per se, although some may not agree.

"I agree that it is morally and ethically wrong, but it does not come under corruption-related acts." .......................”

How arrogant and big-headed UMNO are, they are simply a Registered Society, under the control of the Registrar of Societies, through the enforcement of laws as follows:

The Societies Act 1966 and Socities Rules 1984

- so how come UMNO can seemingly openly profess to be above the law, act as they deem fit and seemingly get away scot free?

Surely corruption, of any type, within a Registered Society is not condoned by the ROS?

This is typical of the state of affairs in Malaysia in the 21st Century.

Why does the Registrar of Societies Md Alias bin Hj. Kalil have nothing to say regarding this matter?

18 immigration detainees die every month in detention in Malaysia

Immigration detention centres in Malaysia are death traps for the foreign detainees who are obviously neglected and denied the basic human rights of medical care, good nutrition and sanitary living conditions.

Suhakam commissioner N. Siva Subramaniam stated that such centres must observe better health standards to ensure they do not become a breeding ground for viruses,

He said that about 1,300 detainees had died in six years from infection at these detention centres.

This means an average of 18 people die at these 22 centres each month.

“Many of them die because of tuberculosis and chikungunya,” he stated.

Others have reportedly died of Leptospirosis (also known as Weil's disease, Weil's syndrome, canicola fever, canefield fever, nanukayami fever, 7-day fever, "Fort Bragg fever," and "Pretibial fever" which is caused by water and or food, etc., becoming contaminated by urine or other body fluid from infected animal such as rats and mice and other preventable causes.

This is a rare disease, but not in the unsanitary conditions found in detention centres in Malaysia which are plainly unfit for human habitation.

Humans become infected through contact with water, food, or soil containing urine from these infected animals.

This may happen by swallowing contaminated food or water or through skin contact.

The disease is not known to be spread from person to person and cases of bacterial dissemination in convalescence are extremely rare in humans.

The prisons and police station lock-ups in Malaysia are not much better either; many deaths occur in police custody and in prisons too.

This brings great shame to Malaysia, and it indicates how cheaply human life is regarded by the authorities and the government of Malaysia.

Malaysia is fortunate not to be much affected by natural calamities, but the authorities and the government make up for this by their total lack of care for their own people and foreigners who are detained for whatever reason in the various detention hell holes in Malaysia, where dying of preventable diseases is the norm in 21st Century Malaysia.

HERE ARE SOME ANAL VIEWS

SURPRISE SURPRISE, HERE ARE SOME ANAL [Amazing News Absurd Laughable] VIEWS

Najib on Defence

The Defence Ministry will continue with the programme to replace the Nuri helicpters although its operational budget had been reduced by RM300 million.

DPM Najib Razak said although the ministry's expenditure had been reduced, most of the existing operations would be continued.

Among the projects that would be continued are the replacement of the Nuri helicopters where we have already called for international tender but the final decision has yet to be made," he told reporters.

Najib, who is also Defence Minister, said among other programmes that would proceed was the acquisition of the New Generation Patrol Vessels (NGPV) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).

SURPRISE SURPRISE!

Zeti on Inflation and Consumer Price Index

Malaysia expects the consumer price inflation (sic) to exceed 6% in June, following the adjustment in petrol prices by 40.6% and diesel prices by 63.3%, says Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

Blog banging by Shafie

Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Shafie Apdal has hit out at blogs, saying they made the recent demonstrations worse.

He also described the culture of believing everything one read in blogs to be the truth as unhealthy and what made it worse was that the inaccurate information was passed on to others.

“One post may say a person stole RM10 and that amount might end up being RM100 when it got around. That is how inaccurate blogs can be,” he said.

LAUGHABLE!

Debating dodging the debate by Shafie

Mohd Shafie Apdal has urged that the scheduled debate between Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek and PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim over the recent fuel price increase be called off.

”The Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister said the debate would not bring any benefit to the people or solve the problems at hand.

Speaking to reporters at the parliament lobby here Tuesday, he said, efforts should be directed at assisting the people who needed help, whereas the debate would not be able to provide any concrete proposals to offset the fuel price hike.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Idris Haron asked why should an opportunity be given to someone who would capitalise on the issue to poison the minds of the people.”

Where are P. Balasubramaniam, his wife and their children?

It seems to be anyone’s guess, read the fudging, sidetracking and convolution in some of these news reports:

1. NST "Police: No agenda in Bala Case"

Police do not have any agenda in investigating the statutory declarations by private investigator P. Balasubramaniam.

“Federal Police CID director Bakri “Zinin reiterated that their investigations were not based on assumptions.

"We simply want to establish the facts," he said

"We are professionals. We do not have ulterior motives."

Bakri added that the steps taken by the police to locate the missing private investigator were also not meant to put him under undue pressure.”

2. Meanwhile the Star reports on 9th July 2008:

“Private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, who disappeared with his wife and three children last Friday, has been located.

Sources said police here with the help of Interpol traced his whereabouts to an Asean country but declined to name it or say when he would be brought back.

CID Director Comm Bakri Zinin confirmed this but declined to reveal details.”

3. Meanwhile Home Affairs Minister Syed Albar is reported by the Sun, on 9th July 2008, as saying:

"I have no comment on Balasubramaniam."

I am in no position to discuss or debate."

"So far as the law enforcement agencies are concerned... we have to make sure our investigations are not disturbed in any way."

"Otherwise there will be all sorts of allegations and charges against the police, and it will be difficult for them," he said.

"I am sure that Balasubramaniam is safe, otherwise the family members would not be asking questions," said Syed Hamid, who urged the press to leave the investigation in the hands of the police.

He added that if the police have strong reason to believe that their lives of Balasubramaniam and his family are being threatened, it is the duty and responsibility of the police to provide them protection.

4. P. Balasupramaniam’s nephew says, according to a Sun report dated 9th July 2008:

“Missing PI Bala contacted nephew

After three days of being in the dark about the whereabouts of his uncle private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, R. Kumaresan received a call late on Monday night.

However, other than knowing that his uncle and aunt are alive, Kumaresan, is no closer to knowing their whereabouts or if they are being detained against their will.

Speaking at a gathering of about 150 people organised by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) opposite a restaurant on Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, at 8pm yesterday, Kumaresan said he received the phone call which appeared as "private number" on his handphone about 11.30pm on Monday.

He said despite repeatedly asking his uncle where he was, Balasubramaniam, who sounded very formal and uncomfortable, told him that he was unable to reveal his whereabouts, and passed the call to his wife.

"I asked my aunt the same questions but she too told me she was unable to say where she was but she did say she was using a policeman's handphone to make the call," said Kumaresan, a 27-year-old IT professional.

He said his aunt told him that they were fine before he heard what sounded like a door slamming in the background and the call, which lasted about three minutes, went dead.

Kumaresan's lawyer R. Surendran said the call indicates that Balasubramaniam and family were being confined against their will and urged the police to swiftly probe his whereabouts.

(Note: In Malaysia a call indicating ‘private number’ could be either from within Malaysia or abroad)

This last report may be closer to the truth than the others?

The plot thickens, but vital questions remain:

  • Where are P. Balasubramanian, his wife and children?
  • Are they being held against their will, if so who is detaining them?

Bala’s wife was reported as saying:

“she was using a policeman's handphone to make the call,"

Was this referring to a Malaysian policeman, or foreign policeman?

This vitally important question remains unanswered.

Was the retraction of parts of SD by P. Balasubramanian due to criminal intimidation?

The following is the full text of the statement given by PKR vice-president R Sivarasa at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in the afternoon of Friday 4th July 2008.

"Yesterday, in this very room, in the presence of many of you here again today, Bala Subramanian released a statutory declaration which gave evidence of criminal suppression of evidence and perjury in the Altantuya murder case.

In front of dozens of persons, Bala stood by his sworn statement, but in an answer to a question he acknowledged his fear for his personal security due to the power and position of those he has implicated. I am very troubled that last night, one way or another, and true to Bala’s concerns, another crime was committed.

The crime was something which caused Bala this morning to retract the statements he made on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 and revealed publicly yesterday. In particular, we have taken notice that line by line the specific statements that were revised in Bala’s new statement have selectively removed those which specifically implicate the deputy prime minister by name.

This sorry episode confirms again what Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday - that there is a consistent pattern of manipulation of the criminal justice system in this country. Last night witnessed yet another instance of manipulation of evidence relevant to the most significant murder trial in recent times.

We are fully satisfied that the first statutory declaration by Bala was voluntary and with the intention the truth should no longer be hidden from the public – that it was important for us to know the secrets he had carried with him since October / November 2006. Our confidence in the original declaration is based on the information given to us by Americk Singh Sidhu and our observation of Bala himself.

For the record, his statutory declaration was first shown to us on Wednesday, July 2 - one day after it was attested to with his attorney on Tuesday, July 1.

Now the key question arises – which of these two statutory declarations represents the truth? This is the question that the royal commission we called for yesterday must immediately deal with first.

The fact that the retraction was done so speedily and in circumstances where Bala says it was made under duress but will not name who pressured him speak for themselves.

Who would have a motive to send Bala to make such damaging allegations against the police, the AG’s Chamber and Najib Razak with the idea that he would then withdraw it the next day to attempt to embarrass us? It’s difficult to think of anyone.

Who however would have a motive to intimidate Bala last night to retract his statement immediately? Obviously, from the contents of his first statutory declaration, a number of people would have that interest.

We demand that a royal commission be established to investigate the key question stated above – which of these two statutory declarations represents the truth?

This issue must also be ventilated in the Altantuya trial by all parties there so that the truth is established. In fact, the prosecution is now duty-bound to reinvestigate all of Bala’s allegations.

Sivarasa Rasiah"
