KOSMO! a Malaysian tabloid rag popular amongst the Malay Language readers, which is well known for homing in on sensational news, recently carried a report about Muslims who wear football jerseys which display images of crosses, liquor brands and devils.

Johor Religious Council adviser Nooh Gadot reportedly said wearing such jerseys was forbidden in Islam.

“It is as if Muslims are worshipping and exalting the symbols of other religions. Islam does not compromise on this matter, regardless of whether it is worn for fun, fashion or sport,” he said.

Perak Mufti Harussani Zakaria was reported to have agreed with Nooh, saying, although Islam did not forbid its followers from participating in sports or dressing up, it has to be done within the boundaries of Islamic law.

Among the football teams whose crests carry images of the cross are England, Brazil, Portugal, Serbia, Barcelona and Norway, while Manchester United carries the “Red Devil” on its crest.

Malaysia seems to be becoming more like Iran with each passing week.

What next, goons going around spotting 'non-Islamic hair styles' and cutting the hair of transgressors?

How utterly stupid and pathetic, have the religious authorities nothing better to do than concentrate on such trivia?

How about them getting stuck into reducing the high incidences of rape, incest, drug addition, anti-social behaviour, abandoning of new-born babies etc., all of which are, as is common knowledge and which has been extensively reported in Malaysian news media, more common amongst the Malays, who are Muslims, than among others in Malaysia?

My own view on religion is that of Lucretius. I regard it as a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race. I cannot, however, deny that it has made some contributions to civilization. It helped in early days to fix the calendar, and it caused Egyptian priests to chronicle eclipses with such care that in time they became able to predict them. These two services I am prepared to acknowledge, but I do not know of any others.

A so called 'Sex Orgy' on Malaysian Island in May 2009

If drugs were used then that is really very bad, as far a having sexual intercourse and consuming alcohol surely these things are not unlawful as such, even in Malaysia,............... or are they?

Of course sexual intercourse should be in private between consenting adults and the drinking of alcohol, and even many other seemingly normal activities in most parts of the world, are in Malaysia, outlawed to Muslims, and even to others.

But why all the drama about a beach part which has been labelled a “Sex Orgy”.

On what grounds were alcoholic drinks confiscated, are the local council enforcement officers endowed with the power to do this?

Once again this is the type of off-the-cuff over-zealous action which time and again makes Malaysia a laughing stock, and which will further damage the reputation and credibilty of Malaysia.

To me Malaysia appears to becoming rather Xenophobic in recent years, and that is yet another retrograde step into the darkness.

Meanwhile there have been some recent cases, highlighted in the electronic media, regarding local boat boys, drugging and then sexually molesting and raping both local and foreign female visitors visiting the beautiful islands off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia for snorkelling.

It is therefore surprising that there have been no dramatic media reports about the authorities investigating and, if there are indeed such crimes being committed, apprehending, trying and punishing the offenders!

To protest Wong Chin Huat's arrest and remand, under the archaic, catch-all and oppressive Sedition Act 1948, and also to show solidarity with the three citizens who were greeting by about 40 armed police and arrested for attempting to deliver a birthday cake with butter icing commemorating the 31st birthday of murdered Mongolian translator Shaariibuu to Najib; it was reported they were also taking Najib a letter from the late Altantuya's father and also carrying a banner. This happened near the PM's office in Putrajaya.

Also the wearing of black is to support the fight for democracy in Ipoh on Thursday 7^th May 2009, regarding the Perak State Government fiasco. The police reportedly have obtained a court order to stop people from being within 500 metres of the state secretariat building during the State Assembly sitting.

It was reported that Perak State police chief Deputy Comm. Zulkifli Abdullah said the magistrate’s court in Ipoh, granted the ex-parte injunction to Ipoh OCPD Asst .Comm. Azisman Alias on Wednesday. 6^th May 2009.

So there could be a lot more [perhaps 'politically selective'] arrests tomorrow.

Malaysians will be waiting to see who is arrested and who is not.

Named as respondents in the application were members and supporters of political parties PKR, DAP, PAS, Barisan Nasional, and also all members of the public.

According to news reports, the injunction was granted under Section 98 of the Criminal Procedure Code, all respondents (in a nut shell that means anyone and everyone) were prohibited and warned not to be present or take part in any gathering within a half kilometre radius of the Perak State Assembly Building’s gates.

Meanwhile, the real criminals in Malaysia are having a whale of a time!

Crime rates are up, and as one example, just today the press reported "The number of rape cases reported in the country doubled from 2003 to 2007."

"Raja Petra’s house was raided by the police at about 8.00am this morning, Friday, 22 August 2008. The police said they were looking for documents and any evidence related to the Statutory Declaration signed by the Burmese Doctor from Pusrawi.

The raid was is in relation to the sodomy allegation against Anwar Ibrahim where the said doctor who examined the accuser, Saiful, confirmed he could not find any evidence that the young man had been sodomised by anyone.

The police confiscated a notebook computer, a scanner and some documents and left about two hours later. Raja Petra is to report to Bukit Aman for his statement to be recorded after the Permatang Pauh by-election."

In a word the police in Malaysia are perceived by many to "PATHETIC".

At a time when Malaysia is riddled with crime, when the almost total absence of law enforcement means that the roads and highways of Malaysia are death-traps, and when thieves, robbers and bandits are virtually free to do as they like, and when house-breaking and vehicle theft are commonplace (e.g. in Shah Alam, Selangor); it is shamefully unbelievable that the Royal Malaysian Police can find so much time for so many seemingly 'politically associated petty pursuits'.

Palatial, and abnormally large police stations and quarters (e.g. at Simpang Empat, Malacca, and on Pulau Perhentian Kecil) the increased number of police personnel and vehicles have not translated into real policing and effective law enforcement.

The Royal Malaysian Police will remain neutral, says Musa.

This 'Star newspaper' news report came out of Kuala Lumpur:

"KUALA LUMPUR:

The police will continue to remain neutral in serving the Government and rakyat (people), said Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan.(This infers that the police have been neutral in the past, have they really been? I don't believe they have been)

He said he had informed all his men in states where new governments were elected to be fair and professional while carrying out their duty. (1. Informed only? 2. Were they not fair and professional prior to this?)

He added that police would give their full cooperation to all political parties, to ensure the peace and security was maintained at all times.(A true statement?)

“We will help ensure that there is a smooth transition of power when the opposition party sets up its new government in states like Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Penang,” he told a press conference yesterday." (Politicking?)

Musa also advised those who won the elections to refrain from organising or getting involved in any more illegal demonstrations or rallies. (A veiled threat?)

He was referring to several victorious candidates who had been arrested previously for participating in illegal demonstrations. (Another veiled threat?)

The IGP said more than 400 police reports were lodged on the elections, adding that there were no serious problems." (Head in the sand, apathy?)

The Inspector General of Police is, according to this news report, speaking more like a politician than an IGP, is he not?

The police have always seemed to be at the beck and call of the UNMO led BN Federal Government and BN led State Governments, so can the people expect in the future to see a change?

Policing and politics should never mix in a democracy, but then Malaysia, until the last General Election, has never been truly democratic has it?

Now that five states have opposition governments, and that BN has lost it's sacred 2/3 majority in parliament, there is for the first time in 50 years a semblance of democracy in Malaysia, let's hope that the IGP and his men behave in the correct and professional way, and are really neutral and impeccably impartial.

The law needs to be enforced, firmly, uniformly and fairly without fear or favour.

The coming weeks and months will show us how things are evolving, then the true situation will emerge.

We are living in interesting times!

THE CARNAGE ON MALAYSIA’S HIGHWAYS CONTINUES UNABATED

It was reported today, Sunday 17 Feb. 2008, that a toddler, aged five months, and his grandmother were killed when the car they were travelling in was involved in a four-car pile-up at km 276, that is north of Seremban, on the North-South Highway in the southbound lane, late on Friday night. (15th February 2008).

M. Sanjev Raj was in the arms of her grandmother M. Mariayee, 49, who was in the passenger seat of the Toyota Vios when the accident occurred at about 11.30pm.

They were believed to have been seriously injured after hitting the dashboard. Mariayee was then flung out of the car while Sanjev fell to the floor in front of the seat. They both died on the way to hospital.

It is understood that the Toyota Vios was hit from behind by a Toyota Camry and in turn rammed into the Honda CRV in front, which then hit a Proton Waja, the Vios then spun and the Camry burst into flames.

The toddler's parents, C. Maniraj, 35, and I. Radha, 30, escaped unhurt.

State traffic police chief ASP Abdul Halil Hamzah had stated that the driver and passenger of the Totota Camry had been admitted to a private hospital at Seremban with minor injuries.

I know that the ambulances and other emergency vehicles on the way to this accident were impeded by other vehicles which were using the emergency lane and thus were blocking it, and were preventing emergency vehicles reaching the scene of the accident quickly.

The ignorant, inconsiderate, selfish drivers of these vehicles may well bear a great measure of responsibility for the deaths of a grandmother and her five month old grandchild.
I wonder if anyone will be charged with any offences connected with this blockage of the emergency lane, most likely they will not be!

They certainly should be charged (how about involuntary manslaughter? (criminally negligent homicide), prosecuted and if found guilty, should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Where is the enforcement? If the police patrolled the roads and highways effectively ensuring that drivers drove with due care and attention, didn't over speed and race, were not reckless, didn't talk on hand held mobile phones, wore seatbelts, fitted baby seats, and so on, then the carnage on Malaysia's roads and highways would be reduced and be, in due time assigned to history.

How many more lives have to be sacrificed before something effective will be done, just talking about road safety is pointless, so are periodic half hearted campaigns centred on holidays.

Will there be no end to the carnage on the roads and highways of Malaysia?

Based on the past experience, nothing will change, express buses will still speed at over 110 km/hr with impunity, when their speed limit is a maximum of 90 km/hr as will heavy goods vehicles, private cars and motor cycles, and numerous other offences will be commonplace, what a shame!

Malaysia Rides a Wave of Lawlessness and Crime

Inspector- General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan has been reported today (15 Feb. 2008) as saying:

“Our members are ready to serve. Other than their given duties during the election period, their daily task of crime prevention will not be neglected."

I received a forwarded email from Penang recently, the contents included:-

“Ladies… pls pls be extra be careful..yoh…….. really cannot imagine if happen to me..

Be careful girls, if going out alone better don't carry any bag. Even if you going out with your boyfriend, don't carry the bag yourself but ask your boyfriend to carry then. I bet after so many cases have happened, today guys wont mind helping their gf carry handbag.

My house mate's friend in Penang . This happened a couple of days ago.”

“Beware of Snatch Theft

I was walking alone in a pavement along shoplots, all of sudden a man came from behind, cut the string off my sport bag, grabbed it and ran away.

It was an instinctive reaction to get the bag back and after some struggling, the theft ran away without a trace. And I was badly wounded. There are multiple slashes on my back and both legs and that caused me to require not less than 100 stitches on my body.

Please be careful while being or walking alone in quite places, especially all the ladies, those insane creatures can be extremely violent and truly harmful. Be warned. Be aware.”

The fact remains that the level of crime in Malaysia is up, just recently a lady in Penang was severely injured after having been repeatedly slashes with a sharp knife, she was attacked by a snatch thief who had initially used to knife to sever the handbag handle, but turned it on the lady when she resisted the theft.

She required 100 stitches to close the multiple wounds on her legs and back.

Crime and lawlessness are getting worse and worse and the Royal Malaysia Police seem to be oblivious to it.

Much more needs to be done to prevent crime, at present policemen on crime prevention patrols, both on foot and by motorcycle and car, are as rare as hens’ teeth!
