THE ARMS RACE IN S E ASIA

e.g. Scorpine Submarines

“15 Mar 2010

New SIPRI data on international arms transfers reflect arms race concerns

For immediate release (Stockholm) by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute [SIPRI]

Concerns about brewing ‘arms races’ in a number of regions of tension around the world are reflected in new data on international arms transfers published today by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). The comprehensive annual update of the SIPRI Arms Transfers Database is accessible from today at www.sipri.org.

Combat aircraft accounted for 27 per cent of the volume of international arms transfers during 2005–2009. Orders and deliveries of these potentially destabilizing weapon systems have led to arms race concerns in the following regions of tension: the Middle East, North Africa, South America, South Asia and South East Asia.

‘SIPRI data show that resource-rich states have purchased a considerable quantity of expensive combat aircraft’, states Dr Paul Holtom, Director of the SIPRI Arms Transfers Programme. ‘Neighbouring rivals have reacted to these acquisitions with orders of their own. One can question whether this is an appropriate allocation of resources in regions with high levels of poverty.’”

“South East Asia

Transfers to South East Asia have increased dramatically between the periods 2000–2004 and 2005–2009. Indonesian, Singaporean and Malaysian arms imports have increased by 84 per cent, 146 per cent and 722 per cent respectively. Singapore is the first ASEAN member to be included in the SIPRI Top 10 arms importers since the end of the Vietnam War.

Acquisitions of long-range combat aircraft and warships by these states have influenced the procurement plans of neighbouring states. SIPRI Asia expert Siemon Wezeman notes that ‘In 2009, Viet Nam became the latest South East Asian state to order long-range combat aircraft and submarines. The current wave of South East Asian acquisitions could destabilize the region, jeopardizing decades of peace.’”

Note: Emphasis was added by me,

WOW!!!!

WHAT A LOT OF MONEY HAS BEEN THROWN DOWN THE DRAIN, PISSED AGAINST THE WALL, WASTED SQUANDERED ON USED ON IMPORTED ARMS IN MALAYSIA, A DRAMATIC INCREASE OF 722% between the periods 2000–2004 and 2005–2009.

UNFORTUNATELY, SO MANY FOLKS IN MALAYSIA ARE REALLY POOR AND PRICES, COMPAIRED TO AVERAGE INCOMES, ARE VERY VERY HIGH.

HOW WASTEFUL, HOW DISGUSTING , HOW SHAMEFUL AND HOW DISTRESSING!

Malaysia’s non-sub submarine

KD Tunku Abdul Rahman

"Float! Float! Float!"

Malaysia’s first submarine is unfit to dive, what a shameful and truly pathetic thing to happen.

KD Tunku Abdul Rahman sailed in to a grand reception last year as the first of two of the same class of vessels commissioned for a total cost of RM3.4 billion (USS$1.4 billion).

Named after the country's first prime minister, it was hailed as an important acquisition for the RMN despite allegations of corruption made by Malaysian opposition parties.

Now it is ‘rosak’ already!!!!!

Die Like a Frog in Shameless Malaysia

VALUELESS LIVES 'MATI KATAK' IN MALAYSIA

POLICE INDIFFERENCE & IGNORANCE

In Malaysia life seems to be so cheap, and should anyone be unfortunate enough to die in road accident, better not expect any support from the authorities, especially the police.

As happened in Johor Bahru North, the police will be more likely to blame the motorist rather that the local authority or the Public Works Department who have not maintained the road.

See this news report:

'A 36-year-old hairdresser was killed when she fell off a motorcycle which hit a pothole'

from The Star by clicking HERE

'The pot hole was LESS THAN A FOOT (30 cm) DEEP said the OCPD'

Extract from the news report:

"Johor Baru (North) deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Akhir Ishak said Lee died of head injuries and police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

He said Lee’s helmet could have become loose and fallen off when she hit the ground.

He added that the pothole was less than a foot deep."

Other shameful events have occurred in the past few days, is Malaysia cursed?

Perhaps it is cursed, but the lazy, unproductive, non-enforcing, lackadaisical and complaisant public servants are more probably the root cause of many of Malaysia's problems.

The Remodelled Gong Badak Stadium

DUMB PRIDE IN A SHODDY STADIUM

The pride of the state of Terengganu, the RM300million Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu became a heap of twisted metal when its roof collapsed yesterday, only one year after it was opened.

RULES IGNORED, DEATH TRAPS RESULT

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health had not give approval for the demolition of the Jaya Supermarket in Petaling Jaya, before the work was begun, the structure collapsed killing seven workers recently.

PREPOSTEROUSLY PIOUS RUDE PRUDES

Selangor Religious Department (JAIS) workers raided an actors fiancée's apartment in Petaling Jaya, reported Harian Metro, according to The Star, click HERE

The unnamed actor, in his twenties, who acts in a mystic and horror TV series, managed to climb to the next balcony on the fifth floor at 3am recently.

The five JAIS goons raided the apartment after receiving complaints from busy-body neighbours (peeping-toms or spies) that the actor and his fiancée would meet up frequently at her home.

Serious crime is rampant in Malaysia and so much time effort is wasted on stupid and pathetic raids like this which invade the privacy of individuals.

The targets should be the rapists, wife beaters, paedophiles and child abusers.

Perhaps JAIS actually stands for Jealous Antediluvian Insomniac Shameful?

THE LIST COULD GO ON AD INFINITUM!
