Say NO to book banning

Yet another book
(politically unacceptable to UMNO?)
has been banned in Malaysia.

This is yet another nail in the coffin of freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

Even the freedom of thought is not encouraged in Malaysia!

What type of democratic system does Malaysia have?

It seems to more like a system stinking of dictatorial edicts, nepotism, feudalism, racism, which is run by pathetic, pigheaded, pompous, pie-in-the-sky politicians, who are a plague on Malaysia.

What is needed is more power to the people and free speech, freedom of expression, a free press and a truly democratic, open, unbiased and transparent system of governance.

These simple questions, and many more, need to be properly answered:

  • Why is Malaysia way far behind Singapore in every respect?
  • Where has all Malaysia's wealth gone to in the past half century?
  • Why is there still institutionalised racism in Malaysia?
  • Why do race and religion based political parties still thrive?
  • Why is religion so entwined with politics?
  • Why has corruption, from top to bottom, not been eradicated?

'Malaysia intolerant of dissent'

REUTERS reports that -

“Malaysia arrested nearly 1,000 anti-government protesters in 2009, signalling 'heightened intolerance', an influential and independent human rights group said on Wednesday.
Political tensions rose in this South-east Asian country following record 2008 polls losses by the government now led by Prime Minister Najib Razak.” Tensions are still high and could rise further with the sodomy trial of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim resuming next month.

“Power abuse by law enforcers on the uptrend: Suaram report

Abuse of power by the police and other law enforcement agencies was on the uptrend last year, according to Suara Rakyat Malaysia's (Suaram) civil and political rights report 2009. The report also highlighted the Government’s resistance to reform and greater compliance with human rights standards, along with a heightened intolerance towards dissent. Nine people were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) and more than 1,000 people were still being held under the Emergency Ordinance and the Dangerous Drugs Act in 2009, the report said. It said according to the official government statistics, deaths in police custody continued to occur, with seven cases recorded. There were also 88 deaths caused by police shootings in 2009.............................................................”

"When will the world wake up and realize that most politicians, especially in the poorest countries of the world, are nothing more than glorified gangsters who view government as simply a fiercely-guarded monopoly on every form of compulsion and extortion to be perpetrated in a specific geographical area?
Why do you think the largest amounts of 'foreign aid' extracted from the gullible diplomats of wealthier countries wind up in those politicians' pockets or Swiss bank accounts, despite all the virtuous-sounding rhetoric?"

SOME EXTRACTS:

“Freedom of expression and freedom of assembly are still restricted for government critics. Najib and his ministers defend preventive detention and outdated repressive laws in the name of public security and a fragile multi-ethnic society.”

“The Internal Security Act permits indefinite detention, without charge or trial, of anyone officials regard as a threat to national security, such as suspected terrorists, individuals allegedly promoting ethnic or religious divisiveness, and government critics.”

“Stepped-up arrests, combined with fewer deportations, have increased overcrowding in immigration detention facilities and produced a deterioration of already abysmal living conditions, including contaminated water supplies, inadequate access to medical care, and poor and insufficient food “

“Public rallies organized by government critics are routinely denied permits, while those supportive of government positions may proceed unencumbered even without the requisite permit.”

“The 1984 Printing Presses and Publications Act acts as a censor by requiring annual renewal of publishing licenses and by controlling production and distribution of foreign publications. In August 2009 the government confiscated copies of the inaugural issue of Gedung Kartun, a political satire magazine, on the questionable grounds that it had not yet received a permit. The issue's cover satirized Najib's alleged indiscretions.“

“Malaysia's dual-track legal system permits Sharia courts to rule on religious and moral offenses involving Muslims and on issues involving marriage, inheritance, divorce and custody battles, and burial rites, many involving inter-religious disputed claims.”

“In July 2009 the Sharia High Court in Pahang state sentenced Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno to six strokes of a cane for drinking beer in a nightclub.”

“Malaysian authorities continue to harass and arrest human rights defenders including lawyers, journalists, NGO activists, opposition politicians, and even outspoken members of Suhakam, Malaysia's official human rights watchdog.”

“The US Trafficking in Persons 2009 report downgraded Malaysia to Tier 2 for its failure to adequately combat human trafficking. After Senator Lugar's report the head of the US Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons welcomed the arrests of immigration officials, but said the US wants to see "sustainability" and court cases.”

Muhyiddin Yasin

'We have done our best” - he was reported as saying.

Najib Visits PRC on 20th Anniversary of Bloody Crackdown in Tiananmen Square, Biejing

Some victims of the bloody crackdown in Tiananmen Square on 4th June 1989
>

Police in Beijing, People Republic of China (Communist China) were out in force on Thursday 4thJune 2009 to stop any commemoration of the ruthless bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protesters around Tiananmen Square 20 years ago on this day, one day after Washington demanded Beijing account for those killed, whose names are still unknown.

The estimates of how many students and others were killed by the Chinese authorities, vary from many hundreds to thousands! Others have just disappeared!

In Hong Kong however there were commemorations demonstrations and a massive candlelight vigil.

Hong Kong is obviously far more democratic than other parts of P R of China and Malaysia.

The most famous image of the dreadful day 20 years ago

Malaysia PM Najib is, at this most inappropriate time, making an official visit to PRC, his wife and a bunch of others [Transport Minister Ong Tee Keat, Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Koh Tsu Koon as well as many Malaysian business leaders and entrepreneurs], tagging along with him.

By making this visit it seems they are helping Communist China to defect attention for the Tienanmen anniversary.

This is a shameful time for Najib to visit Communist China, it is as though Najib is supporting the suppression of the commemorations of the merciless crackdown in Tiananmen Square Beijing.

Meanwhile in Taiwan twenty Taiwanese protesters held a candlelight vigil in the capital Taipeh on Wednesday 3rd June 2009 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen crackdown.

Will Najib now add Dr. to his already long name?

More Oppression of the Opposition in Malaysia

THE EMERGENCY ORDINANCE, another archaic, inhuman, oppressive and unjust legislation in Malaysia.

A former Emergency Ordinance detainee is suing the superintendent of the Simpang Renggam Prison (Detention and Rehabilitation Centre) and the Malaysian Government for negligence which resulted in the amputation of his right leg.

See The Star on-line news report HERE

The Emergency (Public Order and Crime Prevention) Ordinance (EO) should be repealed and Malaysia should rely soley on criminal laws to prosecute criminals.

The Emergency Ordinance was enacted in 1969 as a temporary measure in response to the 13th May 1969 riots.

But for nearly four decades, the Malaysian government has used this 'temporary emergency' unjust law to detain criminal suspects without trial for lengthy periods, in degrading and inhuman conditions, as a convenient short cut when there is deemed to be insufficient evidence.
